Walk part of the Southern Upland Way
Walk part of the Southern Upland Way

The Southern Upland Way is one of four official Scottish long distance paths and is the longest in Scotland, running from Portpatrick in the West to Cockburnspath in the East. The Way crosses a wonderful mix of Southern Scottish terrain rising to over 700 metres in places, and includes coast, forest, farmland and hills. Of course, you can choose to just walk a wee section of it!

Day I Found It

My wife and I walked part of the Southern Upland Way from Stranraer to Castle Kennedy during our weeks holiday in July. We saw a red deer in the woods on the walk to the gardens, which then opened out into picturesque views across the lake. The café was next to Castle Kennedy Garden Centre and Shop and the surrounding blossoming trees were humming with bumble bees, competing with dancing butterflies. Baked potato and salad was our rejuvenating fare.
